Mick Barr (ummm… Octis, Ocrillim, Krallice, etc etc, but you knew that right?) and Brooks Headly (Born Against, Universal Order of Armageddon, Men’s Recovery Project, Wrangler Brutes) team up and go all Voivod on our asses…
you like 5UU’s?
you like no wave?
though not nearly as song-driven as “Bug” (also posted here a while back, if memory serves), picture the same general audio flavor applied to a more free-form/improv execution and you should get a pretty good idea that you still want this
in honor of a new one from them dropping recently on Crucial Blast, here’s an earlier effort. if you liked the more metal-sounding aspects of the earlier Kayo Dot releases, you’ll eat this right up
a RARE re-post. cuz i happened to be in a vinyl-rippin’ mood when it came in. everyone probably knows by now that Mr. Southern Lord himself Greg Anderson was a member of Engine Kid, right? oh well, even if you did, we’ll probably get more search-engine hits for having mentioned him. heh.
Amebix/Zygote/Axegrinder/Deviated Instinct meets mid-80s euro-thrash meets Fields of the Nephilim. featuring Crucial Blast’s head honcho among it’s members, the band made .wav files of this available for free download. can’t get/don’t want to put .wav files on your iPod, you say? no problem. i converted ’em to mp3 for ya. right here
throw some early black metal, some 80’s thrash, Deviated Instinct and 90s crust (i guess the kids call it “d-beat” these days?) into a blender and it might sound something like this
this might be a re-post… but even if it is, the tags are probably fucked up and/or the link dead in the original post anyway
recorded/released just a couple years back. personally i like this a lot more than the older stuff
even though it’s a couple years old now, this is one of my favorite things i’ve heard this year (re-upped)
so i guess i’ll keep the spirit alive with some reposts…
and not in some juvenile, elitist, “before they got popular” kind of way either
just when you think there aren’t any more good re-issues to be exhumed… something like this comes along
is anyone else getting tired of people tagging stuff like this as “no wave”??
… but several. it’s been a pretty amazing week for great tunes from some of my favorite blogs. so rather than re-post a bunch of stuff that just went up, let’s just go visit them at the source.
up first we have:
only THE black metal split of the decade, brought to us by The Living Doorway
then, how about some
(featuring former members of Ved Buens Ende)
(a psyche/krautrock-style project featuring legendary Voivod drummer, Away)
both brought to us by Lucidmedia
next, we get a whole whack of:
lovingly brought our way by Colostomy Grab-Bag
we move on to:
(a side project of the legendary Brainbombs)
brought to us by HATE/YOUR/SPECIES
brought our way by [shiny grey monotone]
and last but not least, we have
brought to us by experimental, etc
you do know how to do this sort of thing, right?
