Rammer, Terratomb, Iron Fist… and Vennt

ok ok, I know I said I was taking a break… but I saw me some bands last night and it left me with a bit of renewed “vigor” for this…

that said, we’re gonna try something a little different. the fact that I saw three of these bands last night means they are all very much active at the moment. which means I ain’t gonna be a douchebag and post anything here that they haven’t already put online themselves.

I decided to go to the gig not having heard any of the bands previously (even though it would have been easy to do so) – call me old school, but I wanted to see if they would impress me “cold”, so to speak. and they all did.

I wanted to buy CDs as well, but couldn’t find anyone who was handling the merch tables during most of the gig… and when they were finished, the bar staff unceremoniously rushed everyone out of the place… but regardless, even if I had ended up with CDs, I wouldn’t have ripped and posted ’em here.

so instead, let’s hop over to their respective myspace pages and have a listen:

Rammer – from Toronto, ON. anyone into old school speed/death/thrashmetal with a slight tinge of NWOBHM should give these guys a listen.

Terratomb – from Halifax, NS. definite late-80s technical thrash vibe ala D.B.C. (a couple Terratomb members are also currently members of D.B.C.), Vio-lence, Forbidden, etc… but with speeds that some of today’s tech-metal bands should envy. the singer made a joke about how people always thought they had a drum machine – well, this drummer is so tight you could almost call him a machine 😛

Iron Fist – from Fredericton, NB. it was hard to decide which band I enjoyed the most last night, but given my own tastes these guys would probably take that “prize”… Eyehategod/Grief-style sludge/stoner/doom/whatever, but with some grind parts thrown in for good measure. amazing bassist too.

and last but not least…

Vennt – also from Nova Scotia. I ordered their 4-song ep from Divorce records/distro (and you should too) earlier this week after hearing the track on their myspace. oppressive doom/sludge of the highest magnitude, in the vein of Khanate, Khlyst, etc. they weren’t part of the gig I saw last night, but hopefully they will play somewhere near here soon as well.
