V/A – “Death of Vinyl”

Posted in Uncategorized by Mogo on September 2, 2007

this early 90s comp released by Canadian label D(eath)O(of)V(inyl)entertainment featured a cross-section of plunderphonics (contributions from John Oswald, The Tape Beatles and overlooked Toronto plunderists Sucking Chest Wound – whose disc I’m still digging through boxes trying to find, hoping I haven’t lost it) and other experimentalists of the era (Vasilisk, Zoviet France, Zone, etc)… split into two parts as it came in slightly over 100MB… join us as we revisit this ushering-in of the digital era in two parts:

V/A – “The Cassette Mythos”

in some ways it’s kind of astounding that there hasn’t been any larger-scale retro-appreciation for the cassette artists of the 80s yet… there were certainly some gems among that scene and many of them (Yximalloo, MinĂ²y, Costes, John Wiggins, Qubais Ghazala, etc) are featured on this comp.

infamous United Diaries comp. featuring Coil, Current 93, P.16.D4 and others, as well as what might just be my favorite-ever Nurse With Wound track…
